India's new comic revolution by Marvel comics tries to bridge the gap between renderings on celluloid and renderings on paper. Shekhar Kapoor has launched his own vrsion of mythology in the comic series 'Devi'. Devi is the personification of combined powers of the pantheonto give rise to an invinsible entity with a female manifestation... conjured solely for the destruction of Lord Bala.. A god gone evil and fallen from grace of the pantheon.
The story has many borrowings from hindu mythology. The very creation of Devi bears resonance with the birth of 'Shakti' the Goddess which rose when the powers of all gods combined.
Ever noticed that in most myths especially the pagan ones the supreme power to destroy evil is a feminine manifestation... Why so? One might wonder.
Hindu mythology symbolises power as a feminine entity. The words synonymous to the meanings of power are all 'streeling' or of female gender. What can be the possible reason?

True. I guess real 'Power' is probably a feminine entity - especially the referred to by Hindu Mythology (Corporate speak will probably conjure up power to be synonymous with drive, control, ego...which is sounding very masculine :))
ReplyDeleteSupposedly, the energy coiled around the base of the spine in a human is feminine, and the mind (or logos) is male. When the feminine energy shoots up the spine in a certain situation, and if it completes its trajectory to a certain spot in the brain, the result is the complete formation of specific centres (the remaining 95% of capability now comes into function) that can....ummm, well......more, when they're formed eh?
But in general, the power that most men (and women seek) is the same one. The phenomena of true growth or evolution of a human lies in that 'feminine' power, and across all root religions this is the same. Even many of the stories of evil that has been vanquished by the power are usually an indicative map of the internal structures of a human being and blockages to this expansion of consciousness, and how it is overcome.
Ok, so that could be one possible reason..
